Durianrider – philosopher of the new age 😉 – on human agency

I’m stoked to make my bachelor thesis available – the demand was there. It was thrilling to write it as the content taught me significant practical approaches and views for life. Reading it will be a true mindset booster! – not only for Durianrider fans.

I’ve studied English Studies and Theater, Movie & Media Science and in this final thesis in April 2014, I combined my strong interest in a vegan low fat diet, healthy lifestyle, mindset growth and Durianrider’s videos with the cultural studies’ theory of human agency. I was keen on getting to know Harley’s older videos and to learn about health & attitude to life which I luckily had to then 😉 My professor was super enthusiastic about it: “What a deeply interesting approach to the topic!”… and therefore got to see plenty of Durianrider’s videos stuffed with the vegan message – haha :).

What makes this thesis worth reading?
Main object of my analysis is Durianrider’s YouTube channel and precisely what he has to say about self-determination and agency of man. He addresses the agency theory pretty straight especially in his older, less popular videos on his channel (“durianriders” back then”). Old but gold. These I analyze in the scope of the question “Who determines who?” – the individual the society or the society the individual? How much power & freedom do we really have within the subtle norms of status quo & mainstream?!
My work includes transcribed relevant videos of Durianrider in original sound. His attitude towards the ability self-determination is badass and wittily put as usual. He opens new points of view on the topic by approaching human agency in a very opposite way compared to the cultural theorists with their prevalent perceptions. The opposition of Durianrider’s and the conventional approach of the cultural studies is mind-blowing, refreshing and eyeopening.
The mediating role & function of YouTube in today’s society is also object of the thesis.

All in all an inspirational motivational reminder for attiude towards life, badass mindset tips included. I benefited especially working out the perception of cultural studies  – it’s fun to see the chasm and think: How cool I don’t have to be a victim if I just reboot my mind – for which the input of this thesis is an ideal start.
I personally think that the result of the analysis is highly interesting and life-enriching.

Durianrider – Philosoph der Neuzeit 😉 – über die Handlungsfähigkeit des Menschen

In meinem Video von April 2014 (war mitten in meinem Burnout, krass, wie anders mein Gesicht da noch aussah!) habe ich euch gefragt, ob ihr Interesse habt und eure Nachfrage war groß – ich freu mich, hier endlich meine Bachelorarbeit zur Verfügung stellen zu können. Sie zu schreiben war spannend und hat mir wertvolle praktische Sichtweisen fürs Leben gegeben. Und sie zu lesen ist ein wahrer Booster für’s Mindset! – nicht nur Durianrider Fans.

Ich habe English Studies und Theater-, Film- und Medienwissenschaft studiert und in der Abschlussarbeit mein starkes Interesse an veganer fettarmer Ernährung, gesundem Lebensstil, starkem Mindset und Durianriders Videos mit der kulturwissenschaftlichen Theorie von der Handlungsfähigkeit (agency) des Menschen verbunden. Ich wollte sowieso Harleys ältere Videos kennenlernen und mich mit Gesundheit & Lebenseinstellung beschäftigen, was ich dann ja leider musste 😉 Mein Professor war dafür sehr zu begeistern: “Was für eine höchstinteressante Herangehensweise!” …und hat so beruflich Durianriders Videos sehen müssen/dürfen – bis oben hin voll mit der veganen Message – hehe :).

Was macht die Arbeit lesenswert?
Hauptgegenstand meiner Arbeit ist Durianriders YouTube Channel und was er zur Selbstbestimmungs- & Handlungsfähigkeit des Menschen zu sagen hat. Er adressiert besonders in älteren, unbekannteren Videos auf seinem Kanal (damals noch “durianriders”). Old but gold. Diese analysiere ich vor der Frage “Wer bestimmt wen?” – der Einzelne die Gesellschaft oder die Gesellschaft den Einzelnen? Wie viel Macht und Freiheit haben wir wirklich im Geflecht der Normen des Status Quo & Mainstreams?!
In der Arbeit habe ich relevante Videos von Durianrider im O-Ton transkribiert. Seine Einstellung zur Selbstbestimmungsfähigkeit ist der Burner und originell ausformuliert. Durianrider öffnet neue Sichtweisen auf das Thema, indem er im Vergleich zu Kulturwissenschaftlern ziemlich gegenteilig an die Selbstbestimmungs- und Handlungsfähigkeit des Menschen herangeht. Die Gegenüberstellung von Durianrider’s Heransgehensweise und den herkömmlichen Kulturwissenschaftstheoretikern ist sowohl verblüffend, erfrischend als auch augenöffend.
Die vermittelnde Rolle & Funktion von YouTube in der heutigen Gesellschaft ist auch Gegenstand der Arbeit.

Alles in allem ein inspirierender motivierender Reminder zur Lebenseinstellung, inklusive Badass-Mindset-Tipps. Gerade das Ausarbeiten der kulturwissenschaftlichen Sichtweise hat mir besonders viel gegeben – es macht Spaß, den großen Unterschied zu sehen und zu denken: Cool, dass ich dem nicht ausgeliefert sein muss, indem ich mein Denken erneuere – wofür der Input dieser Arbeit ein idealer Anfang ist.
Ich finde das Ergebnis der Analyse höchstinteressant und lebensbereichernd.
